Dubai's $35 billion project expands Al Maktoum International Airport, setting new global aviation standards

In a monumental step, the Dubai government has given permission to implement a colossal project to build a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport worth USD 35 billion. This ambitious endeavor will elevate Dubai's aviation infrastructure to unprecedented heights, making it five times larger than the current main international airport and poised to become the largest in the world.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the visionary ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the UAE, announced the landmark decision, highlighting the airport's staggering capacity. "Al Maktoum International Airport will enjoy the world’s largest capacity, reaching up to 260 million passengers", he declared.

For perspective, Dubai International Airport, the world's second-busiest in 2023, catered to 86.9 million passengers. However, with operations set to migrate to Al Maktoum International Airport in the coming years, the landscape of global air travel is poised for a seismic shift.

Unprecedented Scale and Innovation

The new airport will boast an impressive array of features, including 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways. Pioneering aviation technologies will be integrated, marking a significant leap forward for the sector. Digital renderings shared by the Dubai Media Office showcase futuristic designs and expansive infrastructure, offering a glimpse into the aviation hub of tomorrow.
